40% of happiness is intentional activity, pleasure is increasing positive emotion. Positive emotions broaden the thought-action repertoire, build personal resources, give openness to new ideas and experiences, foster friendships and relationships. It can even boost the immune system.
Positive emotions can be cultivated by gratitude and savouring- gratitude is acknowledgement of goodness. Have lower materialism, more personal skills. savoring can be anticipatory, in the moment or reminiscent. Those who savor are more self-confident, gratified and less neurotic and hopeless.
Meaning in life is contributing to something larger than yourself, or yourself. Capitalising is active constructive responding to good news, amplifies the pleasure of the good situation and has positive feedback loop of good experiences.
